December 1: The LCSO Christmas Dinner has taken place in the restaurant Le Cinq in Lausanne.

November 28: LCSO and the group of Prof. Alexander Adibekian at the University of Geneva received a Sinergia grant of the Swiss National Science Foundation for a new collaborative project on the identification of biological targets of organic molecules using hypervalent iodine probes. A team of two PhD’s and two postdocs will be hired half in Geneva and half at EPFL to work on this new interdisciplinary project.

November 21: Ugo Orcel received a EarlyPostdoc.Mobility grant of the Swiss National Science Foundation to join the group of Prof. Bernhard Breit at the University of Freiburg. Congratulations!

April 29: The results obtained by the Matile Group at the University of Geneva using our EBX reagent for the termination of cell-penetrating poly(disulfide)s have appeared in Polymer Chemistry (DOI: 10.1039/C6PY00562D ).

April 19: The results obtained by Gergely Tolnai and Jonathan Brand on the alkynylation of tryptophan in peptides with TIPS-EBX have appeared in a special issue of the Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry dedicated to C-H Functionalization (DOI: 10.3762/bjoc.12.74).

March 29: LCSO receives a SNF grant to support its research in strained ring chemistry. Two PhD theses will be financed with a start between Fall 2016 and Spring 2017.

March 30: The highlight of Maria Victoria Vita on the late stage azidation of C-H bonds has now appeared in Angewandte Chemie (DOI: 10.1002/anie.201501666).

March 27: The LCSO has received a grant of the SNF (Swiss National Science Foundation) to support its project on Multi-Functionalization and Domino Reactions for Accessing Molecular Complexity. The project will start in June 2015 and will support two PhD students.

December 8: After the inaugural workshop at Certosa di Pontignano in Siena, Italy, the LCSO definitively joined COST call CM0804: Chemical Biology with Natural Products. This collaboration network will allow the LCSO to use its synthetic skills in biologically relevant challenges.

November 22: Jonathan Brand received the “GlaxoSmithKline Certificate for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Organic Chemistry 2007-2008 Academic Year” for the best master grade at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier: Congratulation!

January 12: After Installation of the glove box and solvent system, the laboratory is now fully functional.

October 10: The laboratory is baptized as “Laboratory of Catalysis and Organic Synthesis” and becomes a new unity of the Institute.

October 1: Jérôme Waser is appointed as assistant professor in organic chemistry at the EPFL
